Minsk. The Church of the Virgin Mary.
The brick church was built in 1700-1710 in the Baroque style: a three-nave, six-columned basilica. In the interior, near the apse in the side aisles, there were two chapels: the Holy Trinity and St. Felician, the founder of the latter was the nobleman K. Zawisha.
There were 12 different wooden sculptures of the apostles in the church. The Baroque frescoes were executed by the artist Kazimir Antoshevsky. The two-towered facade is decorated with two multi-tiered towers and is oriented towards Freedom Square. There is a Baroque shield between the towers. On the facade, sculptures of saints were located in niches: Peter and Paul on the towers, and the Virgin and Child on the pediment.
At that time, four named bells were installed on the towers of the church: Casimir, Thaddeus, Felician and Jacob. The Jacob's Bell weighed 350 pounds.
The church was rebuilt and renovated several times.
In Soviet times, the Spartak sports association was located in the church building.
In 1747, the building of the Jesuit college was erected to the right of the church. In Minsk, the Jesuits provided the best free education. Famous teachers worked at the college, for example, Adam Krupsky, a professor of philosophy, Adam Abramovich – a preacher and polemicist.
After joining the Russian Empire in 1799, the building of the college housed the current departments, and then the State Chamber, Treasury and other provincial institutions.
