A time machine in the center of Minsk: why it's worth taking a ride on a Retrobus

Imagine: you get on the bus, but it's not the usual MAZ with a validator and air conditioning. These are wooden benches, the characteristic "roar" of the engine, the smell of old leather and the city flashing behind the sliding windows, which seemed to have become a little more elegant and unhurried. Welcome aboard the ZIS-8, a retro bus that turns an ordinary excursion into a real adventure.

Retrobus is a unique project that allows you to get to know Minsk in an amazing way. These cars from the 30s of the last century remember the pre-war capital, they drove through the streets in the difficult post-war period, rebuilding the city from the ruins. Today they went on the route again to show us how our great-grandfathers saw Minsk.

A shot from your favorite movie.

If you are a fan of Soviet classics, then this bus will seem vaguely familiar to you. The very "Ferdinand" from the legendary movie "The Meeting Place cannot be changed" is the ZIS-8. Sitting inside, you involuntarily feel like a hero of that time. And if you wear a bright tie or a polka dot dress, it's easy to imagine yourself as a participant in the filming of "Dudes" movie. The sound of shifting gears, the creaking of oak benches and sliding windows create an effect of presence in the era.

Route: 23 stops on the way to the opening.

The route is designed to capture the soul of the old city and the grandeur of the Soviet heritage, but from an unusual angle. The tour starts at the heart of the capital - the Town Hall on Freedom Square. In a little over an hour, you will have time to see the city in a cross-section.

From the historical center, the route goes to the monumental stele "Minsk - the hero city" and Victory Park, in order to return to the picturesque panorama of the historical center. You will drive past the neat houses of the Troitskoe suburb, see the strict architecture of the Suvorov School and, once on Lenin Street, admire the ancient fountains.

The special charm of the trip is the contrasts. You will drive past the majestic KGB building and the oldest Main Post Office, roll out into the expanse of Independence Square, and then dive into the atmospheric Oktyabrskaya Street, where the classic retro bus looks incredibly organic against the background of modern street art.

The program includes the famous Dynamo Stadium, the Circus, Victory Square, the Osmolovka old building area and, of course, the magnificent Bolshoi (Big) Opera and Ballet Theater.

The final chords of the route are the Zybitskaya youth street with its bars and atmosphere, the majestic Palace of the Republic and the Yanka Kupala Theater. The circle has closed: you are back in the very center, but with a completely new feeling of the city.

Important information for time travelers.

To make the dive happen, just remember a few details:

· Where to board: departure takes place from the Town Hall (Freedom Square, 2A). You will definitely not be mistaken if you see a vintage bus.

· When we leave: Tours are available during the day. You can choose any convenient session: 11:00, 13:00, 15:00, 17:00, 19:00 and 21:00.

· What to take: a good mood and a camera. The views from the sliding windows are particularly atmospheric. Keep in mind that this is not a modern tourist liner, but a historical transport - the comfort here is "special", but it is he who gives the most unforgettable feeling.

Taking a ride on the Retrobus is not just an excursion. This is an opportunity to see Minsk without fuss, feel its rhythm of the last century and make dozens of unique shots that will surprise even those who seem to know the city by heart. Get in, the doors are closing, the speedometer needle is shaking - Minsk is ahead, as you have not seen it yet.
