Grodno. The Talmud Tori I building.
The old Talmud Tori I building is located in the city of Grodno along Bolshaya Troitskaya Street. The monument was erected near the Great Choral Synagogue around 1890 during the time of the Russian Empire. At various times, the building housed Jewish religious institutions. For a while there was a prayer school "Klyauz" in the building, then the Levinson Chaim-Itska prayer house.
The building is stone, two-storied, not plastered with yellow brick. A striking example of brick-style architecture in Grodno.
After the signing of the Peace of Riga in 1921, Grodno came under Polish rule until the arrival of Soviet power in 1939. During this period, private teacher training courses and a Jewish seventh-grade school, Talmud Tora I, operated in the building during Polish times. The head of the school was S. Badalkes. Then the Bregman School for artisans.
After the Great Patriotic War, a cooperative college and a trade and cooperative school worked in this house. Then there was a dormitory of the cooperative technical college.
The monument is currently under reconstruction.
