Description
On November 9, 2017, a monument dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian police was unveiled in Gomel. A two-meter bronze sculpture appeared at the intersection of Privokzalnaya Square and Privokzalnaya Street. The main feature of the composition is the expressive figure of a senior police sergeant in the uniform of the 1950s with the awards of a participant in the Great Patriotic War. His trusty motorcycle is nearby.
The process of making the sculpture took almost a year: the final sketch was completed in December 2016, and the final image was cast by August 2017.
The project was funded by private sponsors and the officers' assembly of the Gomel police, which made it possible to realize the idea of creating this monument. The motorcycle that became part of the composition was carefully recreated based on a real model (M-72-H1, which was provided by the restorer of retro transport Alexander Shamkin), which gives the monument additional historical value and authenticity.

Gomel. Monument "100 years of the Belarusian police"
The author of this bronze sculpture is Valery Kondratenko. The sculpture, 2.1 meters high and weighing 1.3 tons, is located near the Palace of Culture of Railway Workers at the intersection of Privokzalnaya Square and Privokzalnaya Street. The central element of the composition is the figure of a senior police lieutenant in the uniform of the 1950s, decorated with awards of a participant in the Great Patriotic War. A policeman stands against the background of a parked M-72 motorcycle, holding a baton in his outstretched right hand, and a police whistle in his left hand pressed to his chest. He has a field bag slung over his shoulder.
The figure of a policeman is mounted on a round platform on which the inscription "100 year of Belaruskai milici" is cast. This platform rests on a two-stage pedestal. A memorial plaque in the form of a heraldic shield with the inscription "4 sakavika 1917 Zen utensils Belaruskai milici" is fixed on the upper step of the pedestal.
The sculptor conceived this composition so that the policeman looked like he was regulating traffic and standing guard over order. The outstretched right hand clutches a baton, symbolizing control over the situation, and the left hand pressed to the chest holds a police whistle ready for use. A field bag hangs on the shoulder, adding authenticity to the image. The author of the sculpture drew inspiration from his front-line memoirs, which gives the figure a special historical significance.
As for the motorcycle, its implementation is based on a real motorcycle, released in 1958. This motorcycle was presented by Alexander Shamkin, a resident of Gomel, who has been engaged in the restoration of retro vehicles for more than 25 years. With his work and passion, he helped to embody this historical element in sculpture.
