Description
The monument to the Lizyukov brothers is located on Pobedy Avenue, opposite the administration building of the Zheleznodorozhny district of Gomel. The sculpture stands on a granite pedestal in the form of a truncated cone, in the end part of which gray granite slabs with biographical data about Alexander, Peter and Evgeny Ilyich Lizyukov are embedded.
On a round pedestal there are three bronze figures of men in military uniforms, 2.5 meters high, shoulder to shoulder. A man looking at the administration building holds a military tablet with a map in his left hand, and a tank helmet is on his head. To his right, a man holds binoculars in his hands, and a cap is on his head. The third man is armed with a machine gun, and a kubanka is on his head.
The entire perimeter of the pedestal is written in large golden letters: "To the Lizyukov brothers." This monument embodies the courage and heroism of the Lizyukov brothers, their contribution to military history and devotion to the motherland.

Gomel. Monument to the Lizyukov Brothers.
The eldest of the brothers, Yevgeny, was a fearless commander of the Molotov partisan detachment. For his ability to make the right decisions quickly, boldly lead people, his fearlessness and love of wearing a Kubanka, the partisans nicknamed him "our Chapai". On July 7, 1944, he was supposed to be in Minsk with his partisan detachment to participate in the legendary partisan parade. However, west of the capital of the BSSR, not all enemy groups were surrounded and surrendered. One of the guerrilla units was ambushed. Evgeny Lizyukov decided to skip the parade and go to the aid of his comrades. The Germans were defeated with lightning speed, but in this battle in July 1944, only one person died from our side in hand—to-hand combat - Evgeny Lizyukov.
The middle brother, Peter, was an artilleryman and fought in the hottest spots. His regiment even participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. On January 31, 1945, Pyotr Lizyukov's brigade went to help his comrades: there was a threat of an enemy breakthrough in their area. The commander organized the defense, but died in battle.
The younger brother, Alexander, became famous at the beginning of the war. Thanks to his heroic defense of the crossings near Borisov and Smolensk, thousands of Soviet soldiers were able to escape from the encirclement. He commanded a division, a tank army and was promoted to Major General. He died in battle near Voronezh in 1943.
For their exploits, the brothers Peter and Alexander Lizyukov were awarded the titles of Heroes of the Soviet Union. It is noteworthy that in the whole USSR there were only 12 families in which two received such a title at once. The concept of the composition of the monument to the Lizyukov brothers has changed more than once. This work was carried out by Gomel sculptor V. Kondratenko, who studied archival photographs, communicated with relatives and tried to convey the character of each hero.
The monument to the Lizyukov brothers is located on Victory Square, opposite the Lenin Library. The brothers seem to be holding a circular defense, positioned shoulder to shoulder. They look at the city from a pedestal: Alexander holds a map of Voronezh in his hands, Peter holds binoculars, and Eugene stands with a machine gun, ready for battle.
