Gomel. Monument to Karandash (Pencil) clown and his Klyaksa (Blob) dog.

In 2006, a unique monument dedicated to Mikhail Rumyantsev, People's Artist of the USSR, appeared in Gomel. The sculptor Vyacheslav Dolgov portrayed the great artist in his most famous image, the Pencil clown. The composition is made in full height of the artist and placed on a low pedestal, it is called "Pencil and his Blob". The sidewalk around the monument is lined with LED tiles, which gives it a special charm.

The monument represents Mikhail Rumyantsev in the form of a clown with a hat on his head and a cane in his hand. Next to him stands his beloved dog Blob, so named because of his black coloring. Blob was the artist's first dog, and she became a real star of the circus program. Later, Mikhail Rumyantsev had 13 more dogs, each of which contributed to his performances.

Mikhail Nikolaevich often toured the Gomel State Circus, where he was always greeted with cordiality and warmth. The artist thanked the residents of the city for their hospitality in his letters to the city executive Committee, which are still kept in the Gomel Circus.

Mikhail Rumyantsev's granddaughter came to the unveiling of the monument. She noted that this monument is the first full-length monument dedicated to her famous grandfather, and that it is in it that the image of the Pencil clown is most accurately recreated.
