The Gavriil Kharitonovich Vashchenko Art Gallery in Gomel is named after the People's Artist of Belarus, academician of painting and professor, who created many paintings, graphics and monumental works.
His work is appreciated both in the republic and abroad. The Cambridge International Biographical Center named him "The Man of the XX century" and "The Man of the Year-92". In 1995, he was awarded the Francisca Skaryna Medal.
In 1999, Vashchenko joined the Board of Directors of the American Biographical Institute.
The gallery in Gomel was opened on February 5, 2002 in gratitude to the city for the collection of 50 paintings that became the foundation of the foundation. The artist's wife also donated 70 works by contemporary Belarusian masters.
The permanent exhibition of the art gallery presents the works of Gavriil Kharitonovich, painted by him in the period from 1950 to 2005. This is the largest collection of the artist's works. His works fully allow us to trace the entire process of the artist's personality formation.
Another part of the gallery's exposition is the collection "Modern Belarusian Artists".
The gallery's collection is constantly being updated. Today, the main collection is represented by more than 400 exhibits.
It hosts more than 30 exhibitions a year. The gallery actively cooperates with foreign embassies and organizes a children's art competition in memory of Stanislav Dyakonov.
In 2011, the exhibition hall was upgraded with modern technologies.
Today, the art gallery hosts lectures, meetings with artists, and other events dedicated to various holidays and anniversaries.
Since 2012, there has been a Sunday art studio for younger children.
There is also an art salon attached to the gallery, which offers a wide range of works of art, souvenirs, books and goods for artists.
