Bolshye Matveevichi. Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
In the Bereza district, in the village of Bolshye Matveevichi, there is a wooden church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. At 19 century in the Russian Empire, the place was part of Pruzhany district of the Grodno province. The place was owned by the landowner Marya Kazakevich. Nearby was the village of Malye Matveevichi, which merged with Bolshye Matveevichi in the 20th century.
A wooden Orthodox church was built on the outskirts of the village on an elevated place during the Great Patriotic War. The church was built with the money of local parishioners in 1943. The first church was built in 1863. There was a fire during the war in 1942, which destroyed the church. A large number of icons and church items were saved.
The monument was erected in the traditions of wooden folk architecture. The church consists of three private parts: a vestibule, a small hall and an apse. A three-tiered four-tiered bell tower is built over the shelter. An onion dome rises above the main volume on an octagonal drum.
The church operated as an independent parish until 1976, and in the period 1976-1980 it was an attached church. Then again, as an independent parish.
The church has been renovated in recent years. The surrounding area has been put in order.
