Chernyakovo. The Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker.
Between Bereza and Drogichin, a little away from the highway, there is a place called Chernyakovo in the Bereza district. An ancient wooden Orthodox church was built in the middle of the village near the crossroads. The temple was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1725, and consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas.
Initially, the church belonged to Uniate believers, and during the time of the Russian Empire in 1864 it was transferred to the Orthodox.
The construction of the shrine was preceded by a local legend that the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in this place in the 17th century to a local peasant who was looking for his lost oxen. Then the Mother of God appeared several times in a dream to several peasants of nearby villages and asked that a church be built on the site of the icon's appearance. The peasants told the local landowner Samuel Yurevich about these curious things, who first built a chapel on the site of the icon. This miraculous image was transferred to the temple. A little later, a church in honor of St. Nicholas was built on the site of the chapel.
We know this legend from the chronicle, which was started by priest Adam Sabatkovsky. He was rector of the church from 1865 to 1915.
The church is built in the traditions of folk wooden architecture, and consists of three main parts: a vestibule, a prayer hall and an apse.
