Beloozersk. The power plant.
In the town of Beloozersk in the Bereza district there is an unusual historical and tourist site - a local power plant called Berezovskaya GRES. The decision to build the power plant was made in 1957.
Construction began in 1960 and the first power unit was commissioned in 1961. A settlement for workers and employees called Beloozersk was built specifically for the construction of the station. The settlement was founded on the site of the village of Nivki and named Beloozersk from the local Beloe (White) Lake.
In 1962, the second power unit was built. In 1963, the third. In 1964, the fourth. In 1966, the fifth. In the fall of 1967, the sixth power unit was completed. And then the station reached its design capacity of 920 MW and the station was named at that time in honor of the 50th anniversary of the BSSR.
A documentary film was made about the construction of the station in the 1960s.
In 2003-2005 – reconstruction of some units of the station was carried out.
In 2011-2014, reconstruction continued and a new power unit number seven was commissioned. The station worked first on peat, fuel oil, and now on natural gas.
You can get to the station for an interesting tour. To do this, you must first contact the power plant administration.
