The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Vyazyn is an architectural monument built in the Neo-Gothic style with Art Nouveau elements.
The history of the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is inextricably linked with the history of the agro-town itself. Its construction is also associated with Yuri Nasilovsky, the Vitebsk governor, who initiated the construction of the first church in 1543. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the church was under the jurisdiction of the Benedictine convent.
After various vicissitudes, including the transfer to the Orthodox and subsequent reconstruction, a new church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was erected in 1908.
This historic building, located in the center of the village of Vyazyn, was built as a private chapel for the town and estate belonging to the Getsevich family. Over time, the chapel was consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and began to serve as a church.
After the Second World War, the temple was closed, the building was converted into a club. At one point, there was even a warehouse here. However, the building was later recognized as an architectural monument and in 1993 it was returned to the Catholic community. The church has been restored and is currently operational.
The architectural style of the building is Neo—Gothic with elements of Art Nouveau. The entrance to the church is decorated with two columns under a hipped roof, and the lancet window openings create the effect of medieval Gothic, giving the building a special atmosphere and historical significance.
The temple is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus and is of great interest to researchers and tourists.
