Rechitsa. Holy Dormition Cathedral.
If you visit the city of Rechitsa and want to see old buildings, you should go to the former market square, where a church and a Catholic church were built before the revolution. The first church was called Voskresenskaya and was wooden. In the 19th century, the church building was dismantled and moved to the cemetery. And in 1872, with government funds and donations collected by parishioners, a brick Assumption Church was built. The iconostasis of the temple was three-tiered and consisted of 18 icons. The church had a belfry with four bells. A parish school also operated at the temple.
After the revolution, attacks on religion and the clergy began, and in 1934 the church was closed and rebuilt as the House of Socialist Culture. At the same time, the interior was significantly changed and the bell tower and dome were demolished. After the war, when a new House of Culture was built, the church fell into disrepair. In the 1990s, the building was returned to believers and restoration began. Now the church is active. The church is built in the classical style. The basis of the composition is a two-story prayer hall covered with a tent. Now inside the temple there is a five-tiered iconostasis with 24 icons.
