An architectural and cultural monument of Belarus, included in the list of historical and cultural values of the country.
The church was consecrated in 1905 in honor of the Catholic Saint Anthony of Padua, who lived in the late 12th and early 13th centuries. It became the center of religious life for the local population. Over time, the church has experienced various historical events, including wars and changes in the political climate, which affected its condition and functions.
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua is made in the Neo-Gothic style, typical of the religious architecture of that time. It is distinguished by tall lancet windows, Gothic arches and decorative elements that give the building a majestic appearance.
The church was not only a place of worship, but also an important cultural center.
In the 1930s, it was closed, a little later it housed a grain warehouse and a workshop for the production of drinks and ice cream. In the summer of 1940, a fire broke out in the workshop, as a result of which the interior of the church was destroyed.
During the war and during the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders, the church also suffered significantly.
After the war and until 1948, a fire station was organized in the church building to monitor the city, as it was the tallest building in the city.
Then, until 1980, the Rogachev bakery was located in the church building. Then it was empty and later it was handed over to the local Catholic community.
Currently, the church has been under restoration for a long period. However, the building continues to attract tourists and architectural researchers interested in the history and cultural heritage of Belarus. Its history and architecture are part of the cultural landscape of the region, reminiscent of the multifaceted heritage and traditions of Belarus.
The Church of St. Anthony of Padua is an important element of the history of Belarus.
