Description
The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God was built in 1886 with funds donated by parishioners. It is a stone building with wooden domes, which were dismantled with the advent of Soviet power. The only reason the church has been preserved is because of its location in the cemetery. In 1990, the Catholic community began work on the reconstruction of its church.
In 2012, Italian artist Fabio Nones and a team of his assistants created a five-meter fresco of the altar icon of the church. The fresco depicts the faces of Saints Andrew and Peter, symbolizing the unity of the Eastern and Western Churches, as well as the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In the book that Christ holds, it is written in Belarusian: "Lyubitse voragay vashykh. Prydu hutka, chuvayce", which translates as "Love your enemies. I'll be there soon, stay awake."

Gomel. Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was opened after reconstruction in 2000. Initially, the Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary stood on this site, built in 1886 with donations from parishioners. It was a stone building with wooden domes.
During the Soviet era, when the state actively fought against faith, it was decided to demolish the temple. However, the building at the Novinsky cemetery in Gomel turned out to be the only one on this territory, and therefore it was decided to remove only the domes, and rebuild the building itself for the needs of the cemetery administration. Later, a film distribution point and art workshops were located here.
Architecturally, the temple is a Neo-Gothic building with a cruciform shape, three naves and two towers with sharp spires. In one of the towers there is a bell tower attached to the altar, and the other is adjacent to the central wall of the temple. At the entrance to the church, parishioners are greeted by a sculpture of its heavenly patroness, the Virgin Mary. On the plaque next to it, you can see the inscription in Latin "Ave Maria Vita Nova", which translates as "Hail, new life". There is a cross on the pediment, and the walls are decorated with elegant pilasters covered with cornices.
The real decoration of the architectural monument are rectangular and arched windows, instead of glass in which stained glass windows with images of various religious subjects are installed. The church has two floors, and its vaults are decorated with wood. As it should be according to the tradition of Catholicism, the decoration inside the temple is modest and concise.
Today, the church is a favorite place of parishioners. Religious and public educational activities are actively conducted here, meetings with young people and classical music concerts are held. The services are held in three languages: Belarusian, Russian and Polish. When traveling around Gomel, be sure to visit the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and enjoy its beautiful architecture and interior decoration.
