Monument to Mitrofan Dovnar-Zapolsky, a native of Rechitsa.
Mitrofan Dovnar-Zapolsky (1867-1934), a native of Rechitsa, proved his commitment to historical science during his life. He is the founder of the Belarusian national historiography. Within the framework of this scientific discipline, he succeeded in deeply studying a number of significant issues, including the history of Belarus with an emphasis on key aspects. His scientific legacy is still relevant: Dovnar-Zapolsky's works are being republished in the 21st century, and a monument has been erected to him in Rechitsa in recognition of his achievements.
In his works, in particular in the series of articles "The Belarusian Past" (1888), he defended the idea of Belarusians as an independent people deserving an equal position among other European nations.
Despite his significant contribution to science, Dovnar-Zapolsky was subjected to covert repression, and his fundamental work 'The History of Belarus' (1925) was considered ideologically harmful.
Today, the monument in Rechitsa serves as a reminder of the scientist's achievements and difficult fate.
Since 1997, the International Scientific Conference "People's Doynarian Chytanni" has been held in Rechitsa in memory of the scientist.
