Description

The chapel of Euphrosyne of Polotsk in Rechitsa, the grand opening of which took place in 1995, is one of the most recognizable sights of this regional center. This 24-meter-high structure is made of stainless steel and brass.

Its official name is Jubilee Chapel. This name is due to the fact that the installation of the monument was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of victory in World War II. The chapel's design includes images of Belarusian saints, as well as those who made a significant contribution to the development of national culture. The chapel of Euphrosyne of Polotsk is located on the banks of the Dnieper River, which gives it special importance and attractiveness for local residents and tourists.

Rechitsa. Chapel of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk

The collapsible structure of the chapel is 24 meters and 24 centimeters high. Its four pillars are inscribed with images of 12 Belarusian saints and enlighteners, including Bishops Mina and Dianisius of Polotsk, Kirill Turovsky, Elisha Lavrishensky, Smon Budny, Vasily Tyapinsky, Simeon of Polotsk, Lev Sapega, Gabriel of Bialystok, Francis Skarina, Ivan Fedorov and St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk. The image of Saint Euphrosyne holding a cross pointing to the sky crowns the composition. In the center of the chapel, between the pillars, there is a cross made of stained oak.


The chapel is located on a rectangular area strewn with gravel. Steps lead to it from four sides, between which flower beds are laid out, adding brightness and picturesqueness. The official opening of the chapel took place on September 2, 1995. Its author was a native of Rechitsa, Belarusian artist Eduard Konstantinovich Agunovich. The chapel was named Jubilee, as its construction was timed to coincide with several significant historical dates: The 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, the 50th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the feat of internationalist soldiers and the victims of the Chernobyl disaster.


Popularly, thanks to the image of the great saint, the chapel was named the chapel of Euphrosyne of Polotsk. Euphrosyne was the daughter of Prince Svyatoslav Vseslavich of Vitebsk, a nun and educator of the period of the Principality of Polotsk, which gives this monument special importance and respect among locals and tourists. The chapel dedicated to Saint Euphrosyne of Polotsk is a wonderful place for tourists to visit. It not only attracts with its architectural splendor, but also serves as an excellent reason to get acquainted with this interesting historical figure. Euphrosyne of Polotsk was an outstanding figure in the history of Belarus.
