Rakov. The legend of the "Rakov spring".

Just forty kilometers from bustling Minsk, away from the usual tourist routes, in a picturesque corner of the Volozhinsky district, there is a hidden place that locals call nothing less than "holy". This is the "Rakov spring" - a clean, consecrated spring, where people go not so much for water as for silence and hope.

A phenomenon in a dream.

The legend surrounding this spring is simple and touching, like many stories about miracles on the Belarusian land. There are no loud battles or kings in it, but there is the faith of the common man.

A long time ago, a blind elder lived in the vicinity of Rakov. Having lost his sight, he did not lose the main thing - purity of soul and zeal in prayer. One day, the Mother of God herself appeared to him in a dream. She pointed out a place under a spreading tree, saying: "Dig here - you will gain an epiphany".

The elder did not doubt. Picking up a spade, he went to the place indicated by the Queen of Heaven. While praying and digging, he felt wet earth, and then a stream of cold water. According to legend, as soon as he washed his face with water from a newly discovered spring, the darkness parted. The first thing the healed man saw was an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, miraculously found right there by the spring. A heavenly light emanated from the face, which was forever imprinted on the soul of the elder.

Processions and losses.

The news of the miracle instantly spread around the neighborhood. The place where the blind man gained his sight became revered as a saint. A wooden chapel was erected over the spring (well), and the icon of the Virgin was recognized as miraculous. Since then, a pious tradition has been established: starting from Easter and until mid-September, a procession was sent from the Rakov parish to the spring every month. It was a long journey of faith, where people went with prayers, asking for intercession and healing.

Unfortunately, time does not spare the shrines. During the years of the anti-religious policy that swept through the Belarusian land, the Rakovsky parish suffered heavy losses. Six churches were destroyed. The same wooden chapel that had seen so many worshippers was burned to the ground. The miraculous icon of the Most Holy Theotokos has also disappeared - traces of it, alas, have been lost in the whirlwind of history.

Revival.

It seemed that the memory of krinichka would disappear forever. But water is an amazing element. Even when there are ruins and ashes from above, the spring continues to gush out of the ground, carrying the same healing power.

Already in our time, a new stone chapel was erected on the site of the burned shrine. It stands modestly, organically fitting into the surrounding forest landscape. Today, paths lead here again. People come in families, collect clear water that does not spoil for a long time, and just remain silent, listening to the murmur.

It is not difficult to find the "Rakov spring" if you know the way. It is located in the Minsk region, Volozhin district, near the historic village of Rakov. The place is equipped, there is a convenient descent to the spring.

People don't come here just for the legend. They come to stop for a moment in the hustle and bustle of everyday life and remember: sometimes, in order to see clearly, it is enough to take a step of faith and scoop up the life-giving water with your palms.
