Novy Pogost. The Trinity catholic Church.

It is worth noting that the first church in Novy Pogost was built in 1593 at the expense of the famous Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Lev Sapieha, but it burned down in 1654.

The Trinity catholic Church in the village of Novy Pogost is one of the oldest architectural monuments in the Miory district, which was erected in 1766 at the expense of the Smolensk commandant Stanislav Buzhinsky and with the support of priest Pyaslyak. The two-towered wooden temple has survived to our time with minor losses, which makes it a unique cultural heritage site.

In the middle of the 19th century, the church went through a period of decline, its condition required serious repairs. In 1859, thanks to the efforts of Father Jan Shirin, the building was restored, which made it possible to preserve its architectural appearance. However, in the 1950s, the temple was closed and its towers dismantled. The building was adapted first as a warehouse and then as a sports hall, which certainly affected its historical value.

The situation changed in 1990, when, thanks to the generosity of the faithful, the church was restored. In May of the same year, it was consecrated by Bishop Edward Kisel from Belostok in the presence of Bishops Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz and Edward Ozarowski. Since then, the Trinity Church has continued its activities and serves as a spiritual center for local residents.

The church is a wooden building on a stone foundation, covered with a gable roof. A triangular apse with side sacristy adjoins the building. Above the altar there is a small blind dome, and above the main entrance there is a turret with a cross.

The interior of the church impresses with its decorative elements: there are three silver crowns in the main altar, and icons of Our Lady of Sorrows and St. Anthony can be seen in the side altars. There is a cemetery around the temple, which gives it a special atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

The Trinity Church, which has survived to this day, is an important part of the historical and cultural heritage of the region, reflecting the rich history and spiritual traditions of the local population.
