Mstibovo. St. John the Baptist Church.
In the center of the town of Mstibovo, Volkovysk district, there is a stone church, which was consecrated in honor of St. John the Baptist. The first church in the village was built in the 15th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. According to other sources, the first church was founded by Queen Bona Sforza in the 16th century and the temple was named after John the Baptist.
The wooden church was destroyed by the Swedish army in 1700 during the Northern War. The wooden church was restored in 1715 at the expense of Mstibovo's elder Kazimir Oginsky. In 1770, the temple was reconstructed.
During the time of the Russian Empire in 1849, the temple was damaged during a storm and was restored at the expense of local landowners Tolochko and Yelsky.
The new stone church began to be built in the summer of 1910. And it was completed already during the time of the Polish state in 1922.
Funds for the new church were collected from the parishioners.
The monument is a two-towered basilica with a transept. It has a triangular apse. The main facade consists of three parts: the central part is completed with a triangular shield, and there are three-tiered towers on the sides. The corners of the towers of the main facade, transept and apse have buttresses.
The interior of the church is divided into three naves. The main altar was created in the Neo-Gothic style and has a miraculous altar of the icon of the Mother of God. There are several more altars. A two-tiered yellow brick bell tower was built in front of the church.
