Shilovichi. The Church of the Holy Trinity.
The town of Shilovichi has been known since the 16th century, and their owners were various well-known Belarusian gentry families: Krupsky, Volsky, Veselovsky.
The first church here was built in the early 16th century with the money of the Krupsky magnates. The church was consecrated in honor of the Holy Trinity. In 1600, a fire destroyed the wooden church. Christopher and Barbara Volskys restored the Catholic shrine. The church had 3 altars, and the main one was in 2 tiers with an icon of the Mother of God. Since the 16th century, a hospital and a school have been working at the church, which were founded by Veselovskys. At the beginning of the 19th century, the wooden church was rebuilt and significantly restored. A three-tiered bell tower was erected nearby.
The stone church was built in the center of the town in 1914. During the First World War, the temple building was significantly damaged and restored after Polish time in 1927. During this period, the parish of the church numbered more than 5 thousand believers.
In the Soviet period after the war, the church was closed and adapted for storage of granaries, cement and chemicals. Then there were tractor repair shops. The church was returned to Catholics only in 1989 and restoration of the building began. The church opened its doors again in 1993.
The church is three-nave, single-towered with a triangular apse. Above the entrance is a four-tiered tower, completed with a tent. The height of the tower is 55 meters. The tower with buttresses, has a decoration of pointed and arched niches. The architecture of the church uses archbuttons and ribs.
There are 3 wooden altars in the interior. The main altar was created from an ancient Baroque altar, where the icon of the Holy Trinity is located, and in the second tier there was an image of an ancient icon depicting Jesus, which is now located in Minsk in the Museum of Ancient Belarusian Culture. The side altars are made in the Neo-Gothic style. There are choirs above the entrance.
