Ostrovsky. Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary

There is a stone Orthodox church of the 19th century in the village of Ostrovsky. The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1876. The church is stone, built in pseudo–Russian style according to a standard project. In the 19th century, several standard designs of Orthodox churches were developed. These projects were approved by the Holy Synod and they were built throughout the vast Russian Empire.

The church consists of four main parts: a vestibule, a refectory, a prayer hall and an apse. There is a multi-tiered bell tower above the narthex. The windows in the narthex, prayer hall and bell tower are decorated with decorative kokoshniks, as in ancient Russian temples.

The church worked during the Polish occupation and during the Great Patriotic War. But during the time of militant atheism in 1960, the Orthodox church was closed and the building was adapted for economic needs for a granary. And then there was a local club with a dance floor. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the temple was returned by believers, donations were collected for repairs. In 1995, the church began to work again.
