Description

The Eastern Cemetery in Minsk was established in the early 1950s. After the war, the elite of Soviet Belarus began to be buried here, and during the time of independence - of the Republic of Belarus. Today, this cemetery is the most important necropolis in Belarus. Many famous writers, poets, actors, politicians and athletes are buried here. The head of Soviet Belarus Pyotr Masherov is buried here.

Minsk. Eastern Cemetery.

The Eastern Cemetery, or it is also called the Moscow Cemetery, is the most elite necropolis of our country, the Republic of Belarus. The area is 25 hectares.

They arose after the war and were opened in 1952 on the outskirts of Minsk, and at first they did not have a separate status. And then they began to bury the first persons of Soviet Belarus, representatives of art and science here. Among the famous figures buried here: the head of Soviet Belarus, the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, Pyotr Mironovich Masherov (1918 – 1980); famous singer, leader of the musical group "Pesnyary" Uladzimir Mulyavin; Belarusian singers Larisa Aleksandrovskaya and Leonid Bortkevich; Belarusian writers Yanka Mavr, Zmitrok Byadulya, Pyotr Glebka, Ivan Melezh, Vasil Bykau, Vladimir Korotkevich; actors Stefania Stanyuta and Nikolai Eryomenko, Galina Makarova and Rostislav Yankovsky; film directors Viktor Turov and Mikhail Ptashuk; composers Eduard Zaritsky and Yevgeny Glebov; Belarusian ice hockey player Ruslan Salei and Olympic champion Tatiana Samusenko.
