Radoshkovichi. Monument to the Gastello crew

As you drive along the Minsk-Vilnius highway and pass the turn to Radoshkovichi in the Molodechno district, then on the right side near the road you will see a memorial dedicated to the feat of Soviet pilots of the Nikolai Gastello crew.

In the early days of the Great Patriotic War, on June 26, 1941, a squadron of Soviet aircraft under the command of Captain M. F. Gastello flew out to bombard a tank column of Nazi invaders on the Molodechno–Radoshkovichi road. During the battle, M. Gastello's plane was hit by a shell and a fire broke out. The Soviet pilots sent the plane into the midst of a cluster of German tanks and vehicles.

M. Gastello was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and the rest of the crew were awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree.

In 1964, a monument was erected on the site of these heroic events.

In 1976, a memorial was unveiled at the site of the Gastello crew's feat. Sculptors A. Anikeychik, architect L. Levin, Y. Gradov. The height of the obelisk is 10 meters. The height of the bust is 5 meters. The obelisk is tilted towards the road and is completed with a bust of Nikolai Gastello. The road leading up the mountain is paved with stone and covered with gravel. On the road there are schematic images of the wings of 4 birds with the names of the pilots of the M. Gastello crew. There are 2 boulders near the mountain, between which there is a wall with the inscription: "On June 26, 1941, the crew of Hero of the Soviet Union Nikolai Gastello performed a feat here."

Later it became known that the feat of M. Gastello's crew was performed in a slightly different place near the village of Migovka. Namely, near Radoshkovichi, another crew under the command of Captain A. Maslov made a ram. This became known for sure only in 1996.
