The Assumption Church in the village of Cheretyanka is a significant architectural monument built in 1865-1868

According to historical sources, the village of Cheretyanka has been known since the 19th century as the possession of the Saltans. In 1848, a wooden church was built here, which was later replaced by the stone Assumption Church, which became an important part of the cultural and historical heritage of the region.

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a cross-domed church with a distinctive belfry on the main facade. It is located in the border area and is an architectural monument in the pseudo-Russian style. The building combines elements of neoclassical and Romanesque styles, which makes it unique.

The architectural features of the church include:

  • A cross-domed shape with a large, squat faceted bulbous head on a light drum.
  • A rectangular altar apse with a gable roof and a pediment.
  • The walls are separated by arched window openings with decorative relief arches.
  • Angular vertical projections that give the building expressiveness.
  • The side facades are decorated with risalites, completed with gables, under which relief equilateral crosses and circles are placed.

To the west of the temple is a three-tiered Romanesque bell tower topped with a four-sided onion head, which also adds to the overall harmony of the architectural ensemble.

Today, the Assumption Church is an important historical site that attracts the attention of tourists and researchers. This is a beautiful old temple, which will soon turn 160 years old!

Currently, the church is in good condition and has been restored, which makes it possible to preserve its unique heritage for future generations.
