Description

The Holy Protection Church in Korma is an architectural monument of the retrospective Russian style. It was built in 1907, but its history began much earlier. Back in 1760, a church was built on the outskirts of the village of Korma in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the beginning of the 20th century, due to the dilapidated state of the temple, it was decided to build a new temple.

Many pilgrimage and educational tours in Belarus, including weekend tours, include visits to this temple. In addition, the Holy Protection Church, located in the village of Korma, is part of the tourist route "Small Golden Ring of Gomel region".

The Holy Protection Church in Korma is an architectural monument of the retrospective Russian style.

The Holy Protection Church in Korma is a significant architectural monument, built in 1832 in a retrospective Russian style. The temple has a stone structure with a cruciform layout and a five-sided apse, complemented by side sacristy, which gives it a unique architectural appearance.

Like many other churches, the Kormyanskaya Church faced pressure during the Soviet period, which negatively affected the Orthodox Church. During the repressions associated with the name of Khrushchev, an attempt was made to close this temple. Although the domes had already been removed, the locals did not allow the church to be permanently closed. After the services were banned, all the church utensils of the temple were dismantled for preservation. At various times, the temple building housed a hospital, a grain warehouse, and a stable.

Inside the church, the incorruptible relics of St. John Kormyansky, who served as a priest until his death in 1917, are kept. After his death, the church and cemetery where he was buried were demolished and a dance floor was built in their place. However, in the late 1990s, during the excavation of the temple's foundation, a grave with the priest's fully preserved body was discovered. According to the memoirs of local residents and a preserved photograph, it was possible to identify the priest, John Gashkevich. A few years later, he was canonized by the Belarusian Exarchate and became known as Saint John of Kormyansky.

In the 80s, an iconostasis was installed here and images of saints were painted.

In 2000, the Kormyansky Monastery was established at the Kormyansky Holy Protection Church.

Today, pilgrims from all over Belarus, as well as from Russia and Ukraine, regularly come to venerate the relics of St. John of Kormyansk, which testifies to the importance of this place for believers.

The church not only attracts attention with its architecture, but is also an important spiritual center for local residents and pilgrims. She embodies the historical and cultural heritage of the region, preserving traditions and faith that are passed down from generation to generation.
