Zhytomlya. Church of the Annunciation.
In the Grodno region, on the way to Skidel, there is a place called Zhytomlya. An ancient wooden church has been built on the outskirts of Zhytomlya. The temple was built during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in 1743.
Several nearby towns and villages belonged to the church and were assigned to the parish. The parish included: Zhytomlya, Obukhovo, Koptsy, Zavodichi, Tolochki and other settlements.
During the time of the Russian Empire, in 1864, the church was rebuilt at a cost of 600 rubles. The roof was covered with a gable made of shingle, a wooden floor was made, and the iconostasis was repaired. A bell tower has been built over the vestibule.
There were several precious ancient icons in the temple: the icon of the Mother of God on a lime board in copper frost and the icon of St. Nicholas. There were 1,379 male and 1,368 female parishioners from eleven parish villages. The parish in Zhytomlya also included the Kazan Church in the local cemetery, as well as the church in the village of Savolevka.
Since 1840, an Orthodox brotherhood has been established at the temple, and since 1860, a parish trusteeship. It operated five parochial schools. Two priests served at the church: the rector and the psalmist, who received salaries of 496 and 200 rubles. There were 31 tithes of church land.
There are several old graves of priests near the church.
