Komotovo. Spaso-Preobrazhenskaya Church.

In the village of Komotovo, Grodno region, there is a wooden Transfiguration Church. Historians believe that the place has been known since the 13th century, when Prince Komant's estate was here. It was the local prince who organized resistance against the aggression of the Teutonic Order. But it is definitely known about the prince that his residence was somewhere near Grodno.

In written sources, the place was mentioned in 1388 during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The first church was built in Komotovo already in the 16th century. The temple belonged to Uniate believers in the 17th - 19th centuries. The 18th-century icon "The Holy Family" is known from this church.

During the time of the Russian Empire, a new wooden church was erected, which was consecrated as the Transfiguration of the Savior. The shrine was built in 1846 on the outskirts of the town on the river bank.

The monument was erected in the traditions of Belarusian folk architecture with features of classicism. The building consists of a rectangular single-tube volume. A four-pointed bell tower is built above the vestibule, which is completed with a high faceted tent. The main volume is covered with a gable roof. There is a hip roof above the altar part. An onion dome is built on a multi-faceted drum above the apse.
