Vileika. Holy Cross Church.

The history of the Holy Cross Church is similar to the history of many Catholic churches of that time. It all started with a small wooden chapel built in Vileika in the 18th century, but in 1810 it burned down. In 1862, a new wooden chapel was erected in its place, which became an important place for Catholics. In the same year, the construction of a stone church began, but changes occurred with it: due to prohibitions on the Catholic faith, the construction was not completed, the building was given to the Orthodox, becoming St. George's Church.

It was only in 1906 that the church became what it was intended to be again. The construction was completed in 1913. It was designed by architect August Klein. Designed in the neo-Romanesque style, it has preserved its tower and traces of bullet wounds from the First World War. In the 1920s, when Vileika was part of Poland, the church was restored.

The shrine was closed after the Second World War. The building was used as a warehouse and as an Art House named after N.Y. Silivanovich. The temple was restored only in 1988-89, now it is protected as an architectural monument.

The temple in Vileika attracts tourists with its charm, and accessibility within the city limits makes it easy to get to the church. This is a majestic and beautiful Catholic church, the "highlight" of the city. It has a rich decoration of the interior of the temple.

Holy Cross Church is more than just an architectural monument: it is a symbol of faith. Despite the difficulties, he retained his appointment and became an example of the steadfastness of various times, showing that only faith is eternal.
