Surinka. St. Elijah's Church.
A wooden Orthodox church has been built on the outskirts of the village of Surinka in the Slonim district. The temple was consecrated in honor of St. Elijah.
During the time of the Russian Empire, in 1854, there was a large loss of livestock at the Slonim entrance. The same disaster befell the residents of the village of Surinka. To find a way out of this situation, local peasants built a chapel in the village.
A few years later, in 1863, a wooden Orthodox church was built on the site of the chapel.
After the Great Patriotic War in 1961, the church was closed. At the end of the existence of the Soviet Union, the church was again handed over to Orthodox believers, and services began again in the shrine in 1988. A baptismal chapel and a bell tower were built of brick next to the ancient temple in 1995.
An ancient bell from 1702 has been preserved in the church.
The monument was erected in the style of Belarusian folk wooden architecture. The building consists of three main architectural parts: a vestibule, a prayer hall and an apse. A double-tiered cross-section drum has been erected above the vestibule, which is completed with an onion dome.
