Near the ancient settlement of the 9th century, where excavations are still ongoing and you can even take part in them, the museum-estate “Stary Mensk” was created by local historian Gleb Lobodenko and his like-minded people.

In first place is the museum, which is located in the estate. In it you can get acquainted with the history of this place, the emergence of Minsk itself, the cause-and-effect relationships of its transfer to the current location, its development in different eras. In addition to the exhibits themselves, many of which are unique, and some of which you can hold in your hands and touch 1000 years of history, I recommend booking a tour of both the museum itself and the ancient settlement itself from Gleb Lobodenko. If history were taught to us so clearly, in an unobtrusive form, with appropriate humor and historical parallels, we would all be historians) Everyone, from small children to the older generation, enjoyed the excursion.

The excursion takes place not only in the form of a narration and demonstration of exhibits, there are many “tricks” with which Gleb constantly attracts attention and does not let you get bored: this is a sharply torn fabric that covers the most detailed model of the ancient settlement, and a sharply rising curtain, behind which a copy of the world is hidden. the famous cross of Euphrosyne of Polotsk, and a re-enactment of the imprisonment of Vseslav the Magician in prison, and much more that you can see when you visit here. You can order food. We especially liked the local potato pancakes, coffee made from acorns according to a recipe from 1547, as well as local alcoholic drinks “Pitny honey” (analogous to mead) and “Usyaslau Charadzey”.
