Description
In Minsk, at the intersection of Pobediteley and Masherov Avenues, stands the memorial complex "Minsk - the hero city". It is a single ensemble with the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, located on a small hill at the beginning of the Pobeda Museum and Park Complex. In 2010, construction of a new building of the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War began next to the obelisk, the opening took place on July 2, 2014.
The museum's collection was founded back in 1942, when no one could have guessed how long the war would last. Future exhibits were sent directly from the front to a specially created republican Commission for the collection of documents and materials of the Patriotic War.
Today, the museum has more than 164,000 storage units, covering a total area of more than 15,000 square meters. This is the most visited museum in Belarus. It was and always will be a place of living national memory.

Minsk. The Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.
The museum hospitably opens its doors to anyone interested in the history of the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War. It is the largest national repository of material and spiritual monuments of military history. Born among the ruins and ashes in the newly liberated Minsk in October 1944, throughout its history the museum has carried out a high mission to preserve and perpetuate the memory of the Great Victory over Fascism.
The majestic museum building was erected in 2014 in a landmark place of the Belarusian capital — next to the stele "Minsk is a hero City", and is part of the Pobeda Museum and Park complex. The architecture of the building impresses with its scale and symbolism, it harmoniously combines monumentality and modern technology. Non-standard spatial and architectural techniques and imaginative solutions create a sense of the greatest tragedy for the visitor and at the same time immerse him in the atmosphere of courage and heroism.
The area of 10 exhibition halls on four floors is 4,200 square meters, where over 8 thousand exhibition materials are presented. The museum's funds consist of 30 collections and number over 164 thousand items: photographs, documents, letters and personal belongings of participants of the Great Patriotic War.
An understandable and interesting exposition, compiled in strict chronological order with a large number of interactive elements. The compositions are so believable that you seem to gradually immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the tragic beginning of the war, the guerrilla movement, the genocide of the people during the occupation… The museum is multi-level. You seem to be moving through history, from hall to hall, passing by real samples of military equipment, original tanks, airplanes – and finally you get to the Victory Hall, which completes the museum's exposition. It tells in detail about the feat of the partisans, underground workers, about the resistance and inflexibility of the defenders of their native land. Unique samples of homemade guerrilla weapons are presented. The Hall of Fame is solemnly beautiful. There is a separate exhibition about the war in Afghanistan (on the ground floor).
I recommend that you definitely take a tour – everything is professional and interesting for any interested person. The staff is helpful and always ready to help with advice and business.
There is a park next to the museum of stunning beauty.
