The Soligorsk Museum of Local Lore is a living story about the past, present and future of the Soligorsk region.
The Soligorsk Museum of Local Lore opened its doors to visitors on August 11, 1984, and it was founded in 1976. This museum is a real nugget among similar institutions in Belarus, because its interior is unique.
Immersing themselves in the atmosphere of the museum, visitors seem to find themselves in a mine, which is a reflection of the mining past of the region! Low ceilings, imitation fasteners, subdued lights and maroon-red shades in the design of the windows – all this creates a unique atmosphere reminiscent of the extraction of potassium salt.
The museum's collection includes more than 18,000 exhibits representing various epochs and aspects of life in the Soligorsk region. Here you can see:
1. Archaeological finds: stone tools dating back to the II-I millennia BC, testifying to the distant past of the region.
2. Ethnographic collection: household items and culture of Belarusian peasants of the XIX-XX centuries, products of folk weaving, samples of traditional clothing and recreated interior of a peasant hut.
3. An exhibition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War and the post-war reconstruction of the region.
4. Sections telling about the history of the city of Soligorsk and the development of the mining industry.
The hall dedicated to the construction of potash mines and the city features miners' tools, photographs and personal belongings of the pioneers, allowing them to experience the spirit of the era and learn about the life and education of Soligorsk in the 1960s and 1970s.
The section "Nature and Ecology" with the subsection "Geology" introduces visitors to the unique Starobinsk deposit of potash salt, which determined the fate of the region.
The museum offers a wide range of sightseeing and thematic tours, and the exhibition hall regularly hosts traveling exhibitions introducing new and interesting exhibits.
The Soligorsk Museum of Local Lore is not just a repository of artifacts, it is a living story about the past, present and future of the Soligorsk region, which will not leave any visitor indifferent.
