Shchorsy. The church of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica.

Since 1386, in the village of Shchorsy there was a wooden Catholic church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica, where the miraculous icon of this saint, the defender and patron saint of warriors, revered by local residents, was located. Then the building belonged to the Uniates. It was destroyed in a fire in 1758.

In 1770-1776, at the expense of the landowner Count Joachim Hreptovich, a new brick church was built on the site of the old wooden church designed by Italian architects. The church has become an important place for local residents who support the traditions of Orthodoxy.

The church houses a miraculous icon of the Holy Great Martyr Dmitry Solunsky, which was donated to the temple by one of the representatives of the Khreptovich family, on the robe of which the date is stamped – 1386.

During the Soviet years, the church was closed. A sports hall was set up in the building, and later a grain storage. Gradually, the church began to collapse. The church was handed over to Orthodox believers in 1988. At the end of the 20th century, reconstruction was carried out here. 

The church building is designed in a style combining Baroque and classicism, with such characteristic elements as domes and crosses. The interior of the church is decorated with icons and frescoes that reflect the rich spiritual life of the parish.

The church is active today, it actively participates in the life of the local community, holding divine services and holidays. It also serves as a place for residents to meet and socialize, strengthening their spiritual and cultural ties.

The Church of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in the agro-town of Shchorsy is not only a religious center, but also an important element of the cultural heritage of the region, preserving the traditions and customs of the Orthodox faith.
