Description

Fragments of the former Khreptovich palace and park ensemble have been preserved in the village of Shchorsy in the Novogrudok district of the Grodno region. It is a monument of palace and park architecture of the second half of the 18th century, an example of one of the largest farms in Russia. This is the disappearing heritage of Belarus...
Today there is a two-storey library building; a square house where the servants lived; a smokehouse; the ruins of the master's yard and stables. You can also see the heavy concrete pillars of the base of the fence that once surrounded the entire estate. Dilapidated basements have been preserved on the site where the palace stood.

The fragments of the former Khreptovich Palace and Park ensemble are the disappearing heritage of Belarus...

In the 1770s, the outstanding statesman, political and public figure I. L. Khreptovich in Shchors founded a palace and park ensemble in the style of French classicism, which was created by the best architects from Italy and France. The palace complex included the central palace, buildings that housed a kitchen, workshops, a carriage house, a stable, a smokehouse, office space, and a library. All these buildings fit into the landscape of the 40-hectare park, which was located behind the palace complex with cascades of artificial reservoirs with dams. The palace became the center of the estate of Belarusian magnates. The library of Khreptovich preserved 20,000 books in different languages and valuable maps. Joachim Hreptovich was also a very rational owner, he abolished serfdom on his estate.

Unfortunately, the Khreptovich Palace in Shchors has not survived to the present day. The Khreptovich Palace and Park Ensemble in Shchors is a monument of architecture and garden art dating back to the second half of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Today, only fragments of it remain: a two-story library building, a square house for servants and the ruins of 19th-century outbuildings, including a smokehouse.

It so happened that in the First World War the palace burned down and has not been restored since. In the 20th century, the estate gradually fell into disrepair.

Today, local institutions are located in the surviving premises, and the English park is heavily overgrown.

Definitely, it was an impressive property in a beautiful atmospheric place. It is a pity that everything is in a neglected state today. Here you can feel the atmosphere of the last century by seeing this piece of our history.
