Lavrishevo. Assumption Church.
A wooden Orthodox Assumption Church has been built on the outskirts of the village of Lavrishevo. The temple was built in the 18th century and belongs to the St. Eliseevsky Lavrish monastery.
The monastery is considered one of the oldest in Belarus, and was founded in the 13th century. The church was first mentioned in documents in 1517 - in a deed of gift from magnate Khodkevich - as a church attached to the monastery.
In the 14th century, the Lavrish Gospel was handwritten for the monastery, which was used in church services. It is possible that a church was built at the foundation of the monastery, but no such documents have been preserved.
After the signing of the union at the end of the 16th century, the temple passed to the Uniates.
In 1719, the Assumption Church was mentioned in the testament of John Buzhinsky.
In the 1770s, the Basilian monastery was built again, and the new Assumption Church was rebuilt.
The new church was built in 1775. The temple is located on the original site of the monastery, and today it is the oldest temple of the monastery.
In 1839, during the Russian Empire, after the ban of Uniatism, the monastery was closed, and the church was handed over to the Orthodox. In Soviet times, the temple was open and never closed. The church is a monument of folk wooden architecture.
