The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Plisa is a unique architectural monument.
The settlement of Plisa was first mentioned in 1642, when it belonged to the cornet of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Bohuslav Radziwill. According to information from the book "Description of churches and parishes of the Minsk diocese. Borisovsky District", in 1879 there was a wooden chapel of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It had one dome and one bell, as well as two windows.
Various sources report that in 1904 (or 1905), a new church dedicated to the Mother of God was erected in its place, which still exists and became a parish church after the Great Patriotic War.
It is a monument of wooden architecture. The architectural design of the church is made with an emphasis on simplicity and conciseness. The main building material is wood, which gives the temple a special warmth and proximity to natural elements. The absence of unnecessary decorative details makes the church an example of folk architecture, reflecting the traditional approaches to construction typical of the region.
One of the characteristic features of the temple is the bulbous dome crowning its main volume. This architectural element gives the building the features of a retrospective Russian style, which combines elements of ancient Russian architecture and later architectural traditions. The bulbous shape of the dome symbolizes the connection with heaven and spirituality, which is especially important for the temple.
The church's ensemble also includes a frame-type bell tower, which complements the overall architectural appearance and serves as an important element for the sound accompaniment of divine services and church holidays.
Today, parishioners are actively involved in the renovation of the church. The windows were updated, tiled paths were laid, and funds were raised for the restoration of the bell tower.
On September 21, Orthodox believers celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This day will be special for the parishioners of the Plis Church in 2025, as the native church will be 120 years old!
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin in Plisa not only serves as a place for prayer, but is also a valuable historical heritage reflecting the traditions and architectural styles of its time.
