An architectural monument of the 18th century in the classical style with Baroque features.
The Catholic parish in Ostrovets was founded in 1458.
The history of the temple dates back more than 400 years, starting in 1616, when Ivan and Elena Korsaki founded a Dominican monastery with a new wooden temple on the site of the old temple.
The Church of Saints Kozma and Demyan was built in 1787. Kozma and Demyan are siblings who treated people for free, refusing any rewards. These saints are considered the patrons of the family. In the old days, on their day, young girls arranged meetings in order to interest guys for marriage, believing that such an acquaintance would lead to a happy marriage.
After the suppression of the uprising of 1863, the church was transferred to Orthodoxy, and an onion dome was built in it. From 1866 to 1918, it belonged to the Orthodox denomination.
In 1918, the church was returned to Catholics, the onion head was removed. During the Soviet years, the temple remained active.
Today the church is a three-nave basilica with a flat altar wall. All the elements of the temple are connected in a strict rectangular volume and covered with one roof. The main facade is distinguished by a two-tiered symmetrical composition, in the center of which there is a portico on four columns with a triangular pediment. The upper part of the facade is decorated with a massive attic with a niche arch in the center and arched niches on the sides. The side facades are divided by arched window openings, wide blades in the piers and completed with a powerful cornice.
In 2016, the church was awarded the status of historical and cultural value of Belarus.
Visit the Church of Saints Cosmas and Demyan to enjoy its architectural beauty. It is a large and majestic temple in the classical style. It has a rich interior decoration, and also surprises with the icons of the 17th and 18th centuries stored here.
