Vornyans. Church of St. George. Watch tower.

Since the 16th century, the settlement of Vornyany belonged to the noble family of Abramovich, from which many statesmen and military leaders emerged. The writer Jan Abramovich, known as the man who started the reform movement in Belarus, was born here and lived for a long time. In Vornjani he founded the Calvin Cathedral, a school and a hospital, which existed until the mid-17th century.

Undoubtedly, the main place in the historical development of this settlement was played by the Church of St. George. There was also a palace and park ensemble with a magnificent palace, buildings and auxiliary buildings, a park with a large reservoir, which existed until the beginning of the 20th century. In 1770, two stone buildings were built near the church: one of them was a pharmacy and the house of the pharmacist himself, and the other became a plebania, i.e. rectory

Today, only a water mill and a small watchtower from the 19th century have survived. The remaining buildings of this ensemble, including the palace, were unfortunately destroyed during the First World War.

The Church of St. George was closed after the Second World War and began to be used as a club. Only in 1990 did it again belong to believers and was restored and gradually restored.

Also in the village of Vornyany, fragments of the park have been preserved. The most picturesque place in the park is an island in the middle of a pond. There is a watchtower on the island, to which the only drawbridge in Belarus leads. However, it serves only as a decoration for the area and is always slightly raised. It is believed that the tower was built in the early 19th century and served as a pavilion.

The island has a recreation area with gazebos, benches and tables. It's very romantic here. The view of the surrounding area is simply stunning: swans swim in a pond with water lilies, and beautiful natural landscapes appear on all sides.

Vornany is a wonderful place that you should visit to get acquainted with the wonderful architectural monument of the 18th century - the Church of St. George, as well as enjoy the natural beauty of the area.

By the way, the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant is also in direct visibility from the village. The pipes of the nuclear power plant are visible both from the porch of the church and from the island with the tower.
