Description

Not far from the Minsk railway station is Mikhailovsky Square, which is exactly one hundred years old, because it was laid out in 1925. At that time, the square near the Vilna Fair did not yet have its own name. It was only in 1934 that he found his name – Mikhailovsky Square, by which he became known to his contemporaries and which he still carries.

The square was under restoration for a long time. It acquired its modern appearance after the reconstruction in 1998, when it was decorated with genre bronze figures created by the famous sculptor Vladimir Zhbanov.

Minsk. Mikhailovsky Square

Mikhailovsky Square is a significant landmark in Minsk, located at the intersection of four streets: Leningradskaya, Sverdlov, Kirov and Mikhailovsky Lane. It is located in the Oktyabrsky district of the capital and stands out as a unique object of the city.

This square is distinguished by its updated appearance, because everything here is completely new: tiles, lanterns and sculptures. The famous sculptor Vladimir Zhbanov created all the elements of the park. One of the main attractions of the park is the sculpture "Minchanka", sometimes called "Stranger", is a sophisticated woman escaping from the summer heat under the shade of trees. She sat down on one of the benches of the square and is happy to pose for anyone who wants to take a good picture with a local resident. This sculpture is very popular among tourists.

Another popular sculpture is the "Girl with an umbrella", which joyfully greets all the guests of the city coming from the railway station. Despite the overall cheerful image of the sculpture, it is a kind of tribute and memory to the victims who died in 1999 at the Nemiga station.

The sculpture "The Cigarette Lighter", one of the most mystical in Minsk, is also of interest. The prototype of the figure was directed by Vladimir Golynsky, who commissioned this sculpture from Zhbanov, but died soon after. It is not for nothing that they say that the installation of monuments to people who are still alive brings misfortune.
