Restoration of the MTZ-7 tractor

An interesting story was told by our user Verno Õige (the site administration has a contact).

Unwittingly, it turns out to be a great advertisement for tractors in Belarus! :)

Verno is engaged in the restoration of the MTZ-7 tractor. As you know, this model is rare, and has a structural similarity to the MTZ-5, but differs in a number of components, especially in terms of the front drive axle and drive.

The history of this project is amazing.

09/29/25 an MTZ-7 tractor was purchased. They were going to scrap it, but upon closer examination of the plates, it turned out that it was not MTZ-5 at all, but MTZ-7. The tractor (built in 1961) stood for about 30 years in the bushes under the open sky, without a cabin. After pumping the fuel, the engine started, and the car drove under its own power (!) across the field to the tow truck. A real centenarian!

The engine, gearbox and clutch are working. Many parts are missing, some have been replaced (for example, the front axle). But Verno remains optimistic, and hopes for the best!

Currently available:

MTZ-7 tractor, which lacks the front drive axle, power take-off box and driveshaft;

MTZ-5 tractor, which is used as a donor for some parts.

For correct and historically accurate restoration, the following archival materials are required (in any available format – copies, scans, photographic materials):

1. Factory technical documentation for MTZ-7:

– the general scheme of the tractor;

– technical description and operating instructions;

– catalogs of parts and assembly units;

– operational drawings.

2. Drawings and technical data on the MTZ-7 front drive axle, including:

– node design;

– drive diagram and arrangement of the driveshaft;

– gear ratios and parameters of mating parts.

3. Documents on the differences between MTZ-5 and MTZ-7, if available in the archive.

4. Any historical materials related to the development, release and

modifications of the MTZ-7 model.

If necessary, Verno is ready to pay for the production of digital copies and other archive services, and is also grateful in advance for any help and participation in preserving the history of technology.

The photo shows the MTZ-7 tractor without a cab (built in 1961), and next to it is the MTZ-5 donor with a cab.

Minsk. Museum of the Minsk Tractor Plant.

The history of the Minsk Tractor Plant Museum began in 1971 with the creation of the Labor Glory Room. Today it is a modern cultural and educational space that performs important tasks, such as the formation of an accessible and permanent career guidance base for schoolchildren, college students, undergraduates and postgraduates in technical and humanitarian fields.

On September 22, 2017, the museum officially opened its doors to visitors. He became a part of the leading enterprise of the machine-building industry of the Republic of Belarus - Minsk Tractor Plant.

The museum presents a fascinating and eventful history of the establishment and development of the plant. The exhibition includes authentic historical documents, archival materials, as well as modern interactive elements that allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of different eras.

The Minsk Tractor Plant was founded in 1946, immediately after the end of the Great Patriotic War, as part of a large-scale program to restore the national economy. The first tractor, the KT-12 model, rolled off the assembly line in 1948. Since then, the company has become one of the largest manufacturers of agricultural machinery in the world. Products under the BELARUS brand are exported to more than 60 countries, including Germany, Brazil, China and the USA.

Visitors are offered not only unique artifacts, but also interactive zones, as well as a 5D cinema designed for an audience of all ages. The museum provides spaces for scientific and practical conferences, creative meetings and poetry evenings.

In memory of visiting the museum, you can purchase a variety of souvenirs with the 'BELARUS' corporate logo. The museum also has facilities for holding thematic events and creative meetings with the possibility of receiving a large number of guests at one time.
