Minsk. Military cemetery.

Not many ancient cemeteries have survived in Minsk. And in the most historical center of the city there is a military cemetery, which was established at the beginning of the 19th century. And at first there were burials here only of soldiers. In 1898, the church of Alexander Nevsky was built. The temple was built in memory of those who died during the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878, and memorial plaques with the names of fallen soldiers near Plevna have been preserved in the interior. The architect of the church is Viktor Struev.

Some researchers write that the church was built in the pseudo-Russian style, and some say that it was built in the Byzantine style. If you look at the church, it will remind you of some ancient fairy-tale building. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the cemetery has become elitist, and with the advent of Soviet power, the elite of Soviet Belarus began to be buried here. Among the famous figures, the following were laid to rest here: revolutionary Siarhei Kovalik (1846 – 1926); terrorist Ivan Pulikhov (1879 – 1906); poet Pavliuk Trus (1904 – 1929); academician, historian Vsevolod Ignatovsky (1881 – 1931); People's poets of Belarus Yakub Kolas (1882 – 1956) and Yanka Kupala (1882 – 1942); politician Alexander Chervyakov (1892 – 1937) and many other famous figures of our country.
