Manor

Belarus, Grodno region, Lesnaya street, 5, Branovo village

Description

Among the expanses of fields, in the village of Branovo, not far from the agro-town of Svisloch, stands an abandoned manor house, also known as the 'Brakovo' farmyard. Locals call it the "noble house". Today, the dilapidated and darkened building attracts the attention of tourists and surprises with its unusual beauty. Presumably, the estate was built in 1920. It was built in the Zakopane style, popular at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, and today is one of the few surviving examples of it.

The manor house in Branovo is one of the few surviving examples of buildings in the Zakopane style.

The history of this place is shrouded in guesses and legends. The exact date of the manor house's construction is unknown. However, according to locals, the house was built in the early 20th century.

Initially, the estate belonged to the manager of Countess Krasinskaya. Then the folwark was owned by the Gorzkovsky family until 1939.

After that, the manor building became a dormitory for employees of a nearby poultry farm. In Soviet times, the house was bustling with life: the rooms were inhabited by young specialists, 5-6 people each. The heating was stovepipe, and the facilities were located outside. Gradually, people were resettled, providing them with apartments and houses.

Now the estate is in disrepair. Despite its deplorable condition, the Gorzkovsky manor house is of interest from an architectural point of view. It is built in the Zakopane style, which is characterized by the use of folklore motifs in wooden architecture. Although this style has not become widespread in Belarus, the manor house in Branovo is one of the few surviving examples.

Today, you can see the remains of furniture and elements of Soviet life inside, such as wallpaper and plaster sockets. The basement of the house is open, but it's not safe to go down there.

Unfortunately, the estate does not have a protected status. It is gradually collapsing and slowly becoming a thing of the past.
