Klenki. The Yavitsky spring.
Natural site
Gomel region, Gomel district, Ulukovsky village council, Klenki
Description
The spring is called Yavitsky by the name of a landowner who once, before the revolution, owned the surrounding lands. The holy spring was considered earlier, because several decades ago a convent was located nearby, and nuns prayed over the crinice. The consecration ceremony, held on the eve of Epiphany in 2020, confirmed this status.
The water is very tasty, clean by all accounts, and does not spoil for a long time. The spring is very popular among residents of Gomel and the surrounding villages. Recently, the territory has been improved – a comfortable staircase has been made, concrete slabs and rings have been laid, and a beautiful gazebo has been built over the staircase.
The spring is located in a picturesque place on the banks of the Sozh river, so, among other things, it is a great place for walking.

Klenki. The Yavitsky spring.
The spring is located in the floodplain of the Sozh River, on its left bank, near the Klenki gardening association. Once upon a time, the Yavitsky estate was located next to the spring, which gave the name to the spring. In the middle of the 19th century, the Pakhomov Convent was located on this site. The spring was consecrated in January 2020, on the eve of Epiphany.
The water in the Yavitsky spring is transparent, odorless and suspended, and unique in its purity. According to the samples made by environmentalists: the content of iron and nitrates during the Sozh River flood is below normal, but in drier times it is close to zero! This is a unique case that is difficult to imagine in modern environmental conditions: wherever there are fields, vegetable gardens, houses or outbuildings nearby, nitrates are present in the water, often in large quantities.
Just a few years ago, the Yavitsky spring was an ordinary spring, we walked to it along a slippery steep path. But recently, local residents and volunteers have carried out landscaping of the adjacent territory — a comfortable staircase was made, concrete slabs were placed on the site, a beautiful gazebo was built, which protects the spring from debris. There is something to scoop up water with. The place is illuminated, there are crosses, icons.
Now this place is very popular with residents both of Gomel and the surrounding villages. The water is delicious, clean, cool, does not leave scale, and retains its qualities for a long time. In addition to drinking, it is used in cooking – the marinades made with it are stored especially well.
In the spring, during the Sozh spill, the spring often becomes inaccessible. But it is also better to take water after the water runs out, since the taste quality deteriorates during the spill.
The place itself is very picturesque – the spring is located on the bank of an arm (staritsa) of the Sozh River. After collecting delicious water from a consecrated spring, you can also relax in nature and admire the surrounding beauty.
In addition to the Yavitsky spring, several springs are located in the Gomel district, which are consecrated according to the canons of the Orthodox Church. These are Varvarinskaya spring (Markovichi), springs in Prokopovka, Pokolyubichi, Rudnya Pribytkovskaya and Novaya Guta.
