The roundhouse in Gomel is an important part of the architectural heritage of the city.

Architect Stanislav Shabunevsky, a pioneer of constructivism in Gomel, created the original design of the Roundhouse in 1927, and the project engineer was Grigory Khanin. This building became the first multi—section house in the city, its main part had three floors, and the round corner tower had four. The uniqueness of the house was that the walls reflected sunlight by adding crushed glass to the plaster, creating a "sparkling" effect.

The roundhouse was built for workers and employees of the Western Railway, one of Gomel's leading enterprises, as well as for the families of Red Army commanders. Among his tenants was Major Ivan Chernyakhovsky, who commanded the 9th separate light Tank Regiment. He loved an active lifestyle and often walked to his place of work.

In 1944, when Gomel was still recovering from the war, Chernyakhovsky, as commander of the 3rd Belorussian Front, sent 12 trucks and building materials necessary for reconstruction to the city. It was a significant contribution to the reconstruction of the city, which was experiencing a shortage of resources at that time.

Despite the fact that the Roundhouse was severely damaged during the war, it was reconstructed in 1949 and continues to be an important part of Gomel's architectural heritage.
