The Chausy Regional Museum of Local Lore is located in a historic building built in 1902.
The driving force and inspiration behind the creation of the museum was Grigory Fedorovich Samoilov, a respected teacher of the BSSR and a gifted teacher who put a lot of effort into collecting future museum exhibits. Various groups of people took an active part in the formation of the museum: veterans of the Great Patriotic War, local artists, the Chausy district committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, the district military enlistment office, local historians and the oldest residents of the city of Chausy.
Initially, the museum had only five halls, but over time their number increased, which made it possible to more fully present the rich history of the Chaussky district. The exhibition contains information about the history of the region, including objects found during archaeological excavations, as well as materials about nature, prominent natives and other aspects of local culture.
Today, the museum's collection includes more than 11,000 exhibits and is represented in nine halls: "Nature of the native land", "Underwater world of our rivers", "Nature and Ecology", "Archeology", "Ethnography", "Pre-war period", "The area during the Great Patriotic War", "Liberation", "Post-war development of the area".
The staff is constantly working on improving and updating the exposition. Local residents and people from the area contribute to the replenishment of funds.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum periodically hosts exhibitions organized from the funds of the regional Museum of Local Lore and works by local artists. This creates an opportunity for visitors to get acquainted with the modern art and culture of the region.
The museum also has a souvenir shop where you can buy handicrafts of folk craftsmen and souvenirs with the symbols of the Chausy district and the city of Chausy. This makes visiting the museum not only informative, but also enjoyable, allowing you to take a piece of local culture with you.
