Chausy District Museum of History and Local Lore
The Chausy District Museum of History and Local History was founded in 1990 on the initiative of the Honored Teacher of the BSSR Grigory Fedorovich Samoilov. He collected the first exhibits, and many residents of the city and district actively participated in the creation of the museum.
The museum is located in the center of the city of Chausy, in the oldest two-story building, built in 1902, at the address: Sovetskaya Street, 1. Previously, this building housed the district executive committee, the editorial office of the district newspaper and a printing house. The museum opened its doors to visitors in 1996.
The first director of the museum was Pyotr Mikhailovich Syrodoyev, and today it is headed by Inna Mikhailovna Kazakova. The museum staff includes research associates Alla Stepanova and Tatyana Fedorova, the chief custodian of the fund Tatyana Teslenko and the museum caretaker Tatyana Tolstik.
The museum's collections contain more than 12,777 items that tell about the historical and cultural heritage of the Chausy district. Among them, the collections "Archaeology", "Ethnography", "Documents" and "Weapons" stand out.
The museum exposition consists of 9 halls dedicated to the nature of the region, the underwater world, archeology, ethnography, the history of the district before and after the war, as well as the modern development of the region. The exhibition hall regularly hosts thematic exhibitions, including from the funds of the regional museum of local history, exhibitions of local artists, folk craftsmen of the district and the region. For example, in 2017, an exhibition dedicated to the war of 1812 was opened.
The museum presents unique exhibits of particular interest: military household items, commemorative medals and badges, personal belongings of Sergei Novikov, the champion of the Winter Olympic Games, ethnographic items, a camera with the autograph of Konstantin Simonov.
The museum is visited by city residents, as well as guests from different parts of the country and abroad, including children from kindergartens, schoolchildren, pensioners, and employees of various enterprises.
Over the 25 years of its existence, the museum has received more than 61,670 visitors, and in 2021 their number was 4,529 people.
The museum is actively engaged in research work, studying the history and culture of the Chausy region, the ethnographic heritage, legends and tales of the native land, biographies of noble countrymen, the history of settlements and the modern development of the region.
The museum has a "Souvenir Shop" where various souvenirs made by local craftsmen are presented. Here you can find a memorable gift with symbols of Belarus and the city of Chausy.
The Chausy District Museum of History and Local Lore does not stand still, it is constantly developing, looking for new ways to develop and is open to cooperation with everyone who cares about the history and future of the Chausy region.
