The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the agro-town of Krevo.
The church in Krevo was founded in the 13th century and was repeatedly ruined, after which it was rebuilt.
Its restoration in 1626 was carried out by the Gastholds. In 1704, Zakrevsky founded two altars and donated the Zakrevshchyna and Tanschizhna folwarks for the church.
In 1868, the building was transformed into an Orthodox church. The Baroque church finally collapsed during the First World War, when the front passed through Krevo.
From 1934 to 1936, with funds raised by the whole world, a wooden church was erected according to the project of architects Peter Stabrovsky and Norbsky under the guidance of priest Ch. Cardel. In this building, the features of Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau were traced with a complex symmetrical composition. However, in 1961 the church was closed and converted into a hospital. At the same time, many elements of temple architecture were lost, only the cruciform layout was preserved, the picturesque turrets were removed, and the second floor was completed. Because of this, the architectural monument became an ordinary building, and in 2003 the building was demolished altogether.
In 1997, a new neo-Baroque stone church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was built on this site, reminiscent of the former church. Today, it impresses tourists with its splendor. The wooden buildings of the plebian complex have been preserved behind it.
Today, the church is actively used and its doors are open to all comers. It also attracts the attention of tourists interested in the history of the area and architecture.
The Church of the Transfiguration in Krevo is an important center of the Catholic faith in the region. Although it is of modern construction, it is located in a beautiful and quiet historical area, where one of the first churches in the Lithuanian Principality was once built...
