Krevo. Alexander Nevsky Church.

In the town of Krevo, Smorgon district, there are many interesting monuments of architecture and antiquity. The place itself is located on a hill in the hills. And each of the hills has some kind of architectural dominant. On one elevation there is a castle - the former residence of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, on the other – a Catholic church.

On one of the hills, slightly away from the castle, the stone Orthodox church of Alexander Nevsky was built.

The first wooden church was built in the 14th century. The historical sources of 1609 mention the church of St. Nicholas. Historians believe that there have been eight Orthodox churches here throughout the history of the town.

During the time of the Russian Empire, a new stone church was built in 1854. The temple was built of brick and rubble stone.

During the First World War, when the front line passed through Krevo, the monument was severely damaged during shelling.

After the Peace of Riga in 1921, these places were under the rule of the Polish state until 1939. At that time, the church began to be renovated, led by priest Mikhail Levanchuk. Already in 1928, the church was renovated.

The monument was erected in a pseudo-Russian style with elements of classicism.
