The Orthodox Church of St. John the Baptist is an important landmark of Lunno.
The Church of St. John the Baptist in the village of Lunno was built in 1889 with funds allocated from the state budget, which is quite unusual for those times.
The architectural style of this temple, which resembles a small fortress, combines elements of both Renaissance and Gothic, complemented by decorative elements typical of the retrospective Russian style. Two massive towers with hipped roofs and arched belts stand out in particular. The building of the shrine resembles a tent in shape and consists of two tiers, the second of which is represented by two tower–type structures - rectangular and hexagonal, the tops of which stretch towards the sky with low crosses.
The Church of John the Baptist became the first Orthodox church in the village, where previously only a church and a wooden synagogue had been built. At the end of the 19th century, the village landscape was enriched with a new stone Orthodox church with a bell tower and a monumental gate.
The church still has two floors and a hipped roof with low crosses. Nowadays, the church is painted white with a light metal roof, but in 2003 the walls suddenly turned pink, which became a rare decorative solution for Orthodox churches. Later, the walls regained the traditional white color that we see now.
The village of Lunno has a difficult history: During World War II, the Jewish population was deported to ghettos and exterminated. There is a Jewish memorial and cemetery here, as well as other historical monuments, including the Church of St. Anna of the late 18th century and the estate of the Krivitsky family of the 19th century.
