Plodovaya. Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God.
In the village of Plodovaya, Mosty district, there is a stone Orthodox church by the road. The church was built in the 19th century and consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Mother of God.
The place was first mentioned in historical sources in the 16th century during the time of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. During this period, Prince Kroshinsky laid out an estate in these places. Then the property was transferred to the Sapieha magnates. The next owners were the Komarovskys, and then the Shemets. In 1663, the Shemets sold the estate to Smolensk castellan Samuel Vilchak. Then the estate was bought back by the Sapiehs.
At the end of the 18th century, Prince Frantishek Drutsky–Lyubetsky acquired the estate from Sapieha and this family was the owner here until 1939. The remains of the Drutsky-Lyubetsky estate have remained to our time.
The church was built in 1871 according to a standard design. The church was created at the expense of parishioners and part of the money was spent by the state treasury.
The monument was built in the retrospective Russian style. The building consists of four main architectural parts: the vestibule, the refectory, the prayer hall and the apse. A two-tiered eight-on-four bell tower has been erected above the vestibule. The prayer hall is covered with a four–pitched roof on top of which there is an octagonal drum and an onion dome.
